Compensation Range: $125,000 – $175,000 (based on experience)
Position Overview
TAP Engineering is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Officer to support advanced research and engineering initiatives across a range of physical science domains, including quantum computing, advanced computing systems, additive manufacturing, photonics, advanced materials, and microelectronics.
This role supports a research-focused environment where safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship are critical to mission success. The EH&S Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for environmental health and safety matters, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices while supporting scientific and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary liaison with environmental health and safety stakeholders
- Develop and maintain environmental and safety standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Investigate accidents and incidents and ensure proper reporting and documentation
- Oversee decontamination procedures and support incident response activities
- Identify and address environmental health and safety concerns
- Collaborate with project teams to develop and implement remediation plans
- Support scientific staff in developing SOPs that incorporate safe practices
- Maintain and manage hazardous chemical inventory
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and documentation (including SDS) for all materials
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
- Ensure availability and condition of protective equipment and safety gear
- Maintain and distribute safety-related documentation and guidance
- Coordinate with emergency services and support emergency response efforts as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
- 11+ years of relevant experience without a degree
- OR Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with 7+ years of experience
- OR Master’s degree in a related discipline with 5+ years of experience
- Strong understanding of environmental health and safety standards and practices
- Experience supporting laboratory, research, or technical environments
- Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) certification
- Experience with hazardous materials handling and compliance
- Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental compliance frameworks
- Experience conducting safety audits and risk assessments
- Ability to implement and improve safety programs in technical environments

Clearance Requirement
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Polygraph, based on a current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI/SBI). Clearance processing and maintenance will be conducted in accordance with U.S. Government requirements.
