Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Columbia, MD, supporting the design and development of mechanical systems for electronic products. This role is well-suited for an early-career engineer who enjoys hands-on work, technical problem-solving, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.
The Mechanical Engineer will support Integrated Product Teams in the design, analysis, manufacture, and testing of digital, RF/analog, and mixed-signal electronics hardware across multiple levels of integration, including chip, PCB, module, chassis, and system-level designs. This position offers strong mentorship, technical growth, and exposure to real-world product development in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical parts, enclosures, and assemblies for electronic systems using SolidWorks
Create and update 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Support thermal and structural evaluations through simulation, analysis, or testing
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers to ensure proper PCB integration, fit, and mechanical clearances
Assist with prototype builds, lab testing, and design verification activities
Participate in design reviews and contribute to product improvement discussions
Apply best practices in electronics packaging, manufacturability, and material selection
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
1–5 years of relevant experience (internships, co-ops, or academic projects accepted)
Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
Basic understanding of thermal principles and heat dissipation in electronic systems
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team-based engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to thermal or FEA tools (e.g., Ansys, FloTHERM, COMSOL)
Experience with injection-molded part design
Hands-on experience with prototyping, 3D printing, or lab testing
Familiarity with fabrication processes such as sheet metal, machining, or injection molding
Understanding of electronics packaging or PCB mechanical integration

Clearance Requirement
This position does not require an active clearance at time of hire; however, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Clearance processing will be conducted by the U.S. Government.
